In The Last Help Before The End of Time, Professor Courtenay Bartholomew, the well-known Marian researcher, is appealing to the successor of Pope Benedict XV, Pope Benedict XVI from Germany, for the universal consecration of the world to the Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of Mary to prevent a looming nuclear "annihilation of various nations," which was warned by Our Lady of Fatima on July 12, 1917. But Our Lord had said to Berthe Petit in 1922: "My apostle (of this universal consecration) will arise at the predestined hour when the appalling cataclysm which approaches will have upset all the present calculations of mankind and their deplorable policies." Professor Bartholomew asks: "Is Pope Benedict XVI that apostle or shall we expect another?"

During world War I, Pope Benedict XV addressed all the bishops of the world: "Let us appeal with confidence to the Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of Mary, the most gentle Mother of Jesus and ours, that by her powerful intercession she will obtain from her divine Son the speedy end of the war and the return of peace and tranquility." She did. It was a request given to the highly respected mystic Berthe Petit of Belgium by Our Lord before Germany started the war.
