               Edith Stein was one of the great
intellectuals of her day.  She wrote
several philosophical works and studied under many of the greatest twentieth-century
philosophers.  She was killed by the
Nazis at Auschwitz because of her Jewish heritage.  She is the patron of martyrs and loss of
parents.
