               St. Clare, as the founder of the
Poor Clares, became the first abbess of its first convent.  In this role, she bravely rebuffed marauding
soldiers by praying to Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament and then by showing
them the monstrance.  She is the patron
saint of eyes and of television.
