St. Bernadette as a child lived in deepest poverty, but it was to this humble and poor girl that Our Lady appeared at Lourdes. This grace did not puff her up with pride, as she continued her humility, joining the Sisters of Charity rather than remain in her town and receive acclaim as the recipient of visions. This is a great example of humility.
