This sterling silver Mater Dolorosa medallion is 1/2" X 1/4", has a sterling silver, lite curb chain and is enclosed in an appealing box. The Mater Dolorosa pendant shows Mary with seven swords piercing her heart. This small Mater Dolorosa medal can be worn around the neck.
Mater Dolorosa means Mother of Sorrows. There are seven swords piercing Mary's heart as was prophesied by Simeon at the Presentation in the Temple. Her seven sorrows are the prophecy of Simeon, the flight into Egypt, the loss of Jesus at the temple, her meeting with Jesus on His way to Calvary, His death, receiving Him off the cross into her arms and His burial. She is the patron of the sorrowful.
