This 12-inch, painted plaster statue of St. Christopher shows him carrying the Christ Child across the river.
St. Christopher is most famous for this incident in which he carried Christ across a river.  He was in charge of helping travelers across a dangerous river.  One night Christ, under the appearance of a little child, came and asked for his help.  He carried Our Lord across the river, but as he went further and further across, the child became heavier.  When he finally reached the other side, Our Lord revealed Himself to Christopher.  Because of this incident, he is hailed as the patron saint of travelers.
