Blessed Teresa of Calcutta
(Mother Teresa)

Born Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu, August 26, 1910 in the Ottoman Empire. Died September 5, 1997 in Calcutta, India. Beatified October 19, 2003 by Pope John Paul II.

The Institute of the Blessed Virgin Mary - Sisters of Loreto (IBVM, until 1948), Missionaries of Charity (MC, founder).

Accomplishments: Mother Teresa is one of the most prominent Catholics of the 20th Century. Her Missionaries of Charity were known for their service to the lowest of the low: the impoverished, the diseased, and the dying. She was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979 for her humanitarian work.
