St. Irenaeus wrote that "the knot of Eve's disobedience was untied by the obedience of Mary; what the virgin Eve bound by her unbelief, the Virgin Mary loosened by her faith." The novena invokes the Blessed Virgin Mary to intercede for us, so that she might untie the knots of sin and suffering in our lives, and that we might draw closer to Jesus and Mary. This devotion is prayed and promoted by Pope Francis.
