TheNew American Bible (NAB) was carefully translated by theConfraternity of Catholic Doctrine from the original Hebrew, Greek, and Aramaic texts for English-speaking Americans. Once it waspublished in 1970, it was declared the official basis of theLectionaries in the United States and used at Mass until 2002, whenthe New American Bible Revised Edition became its replacement. Thecompilation of the New American Bible Revised Edition (NABRE), alsoknown as the Saint Joseph Bible, was conducted by 100 scholars andtheologians. A completely new translation of the Old Testament wasmade and the 1986 edition of the New Testament became the newstandard. The readings at Mass in the USA are currently taken fromthe NABRE.
