Iconography
A collection of high quality Catholic icon reproductions. An icon is an artistic representation, image or picture of a sacred or sanctified Christian personage, and you can select from many different available icon's for use in your home, office, or church space. Icons traditionally are used for veneration, and most of these icons are composed of oakwood or similar materials.

Iconography is the original tradition of Christian sacred art, and has been an integral part of the worship and mystical life of Christians since apostolic times. Referred to in the Eastern Christian tradition as "windows into heaven," they have inspired and uplifted millions of the faithful, and have at times been the instruments for demonstrating God's miraculous intercession in the life of mankind.

The painting of icons is a special vocation. The painter is expected to fast, pray, and live a holy life so as to be capable of expressing sacred and divine mysteries. Thus the icon becomes, in a way, the fruit of the Holy Spirit, containing spiritual power. Since the 9th century the Eastern Church has established a set of technical rules for the artistic form of icons.

FROM THE ARTIST WHO PRODUCES OUR ICONS: "Since 1990, I have produced hand-crafted icon art for monasteries, convents, a military Blessed Sacrament Chapel, and for personal use. This lovely icon art serves as sacramentals from Poland to the Philippines, to Rumania to all of America's borders. I developed the 3-step process of surface preparation, print application and decoupage covering. By using innovation techniques to combine the wood and the print and praying for the one who will venerate it, I handcraft icon art of lasting beauty. Truth and Beauty merge into an icon of an enduring quality." Patricia Cornell, St. Theodosia's Icon Shop.
