Having a Crucifix, Holy Water, and two Blessed candles are things every home should have and especially so when someone is sick or there is someone whose health is beginning to decline.
The Sick Call Set contains 2 candles and a vial for Holy Water (the candles will need to be blessed and Holy Water obtained). Because of the Sick Call Set's unique design, some are finding the use of the Crucifix Sick Call Set as a home and travel prayer aid. The sick call set is normally hung on a wall in your home. It is ready to be taken down and set up on a night stand along side the bed.
How to Prepare for A Priest's Sick Call Visit:
Call the priest early. Do not wait until the sick person is in a coma or actually dying. Do your share in helping the sick person, don't leave everything for the priest and don't postpone calling. An honest word with the sick may be less cruel than to let them die without having the consolation of consciously settling their spiritual affairs. Pray with the sick person. Help him to make a good preparation. Prepare a small table covered with a white table cloth near the head of the bed. Unpack and assemble the Sick Call Set. The candles should be lighted before the priest enters the room. Leave the room for Confession. Come back to assist the priest. Ask the priest the proper way to dispose of any blessed items that may have been used during the visit, they are typically burned, not thrown away
